A superb Norwegian bentwood tine box, early 19th-Century grain painted and decorated with lovely old paint. These were used to store valuable items. These lovely antique tine boxes are hand made with a thin piece of steamed bent wood that is laced together with tree root, usually birch. The sides have 2 posts cut with notches to hold the lid on. They are also called snap boxes because they make a 'snap' sound when closing. To open the tine, the pull side posts gently until the flex of the wood frees the lid. These lovely old boxes are very collectible. This box would be a wonderful addition to a folk art collection.
