This is a beautiful, well preserved & maintained gold plated binocular charm. Both the charm and the stanhope images inside are in great condition. Binoculars like these were usually used as pocket watch fobs for men, but sometimes as charms for women or as a Victorian Era doll accessory necklace. This charm may have been worn at some time but it is in extremely fine condition when compared to most others of this type. The binoculars resemble opera glasses made in the French style. Produced circa 1895-1900 the charm was made in 2 halves that have been soldered together and plated with gold. It is adorned and ornamented with a timely carved look scrolling design. These binoculars are much less common and more decorative than the traditional turned bone type. Both stanhopes show tasteful but completely nude girls and they are very clear and easy to see. I've included images of the inside views which were hard to take due to the extremely small holes in the binocular ocular. The images are much clearer than shown in the photos. The first stanhope shows 2 girls standing in front of a typical background and column. One of the girls is holding a gourd shaped mandolin while the other girl looks on. Both girls are naked and expose full frontal un-manicured nudity. The second stanhope contains a view of 3 nude girls. they are posed in front of a similar backdrop and they are all wearing Roman style sandals that lace up their calves. They also have flowers in their hair but no clothing. The girls are sort of huddled around the column in a way that offers a view of these lovely nymphs from the side and shows nice detail of their butts and breasts. All in all there a 5 girls in the two stanhopes which is a pretty great find, especially in this condition.
