This sterling silver figural Statue of Liberty charm was made by Wells Inc.. Wells was a company formed in 1922 in Massachusetts and was once the leading manufacturer of movable charms. They produced many sterling stanhope charms between 1950 and 1960 that were sold in souvenir, gift & tourist shops. The charm is hallmarked WELLS STER on the bottom. This charm is in near mint condition and shows little patina if any. It is still quite shiny and was probably Rhodium plated so it is tarnish free or resistant. It measures 7/16" wide, 3/8" deep including the jump ring, 1 1/4" tall and weighs 4.6 grams. The stanhope viewer is located in the pedestal stairs. The view shows the Statue of Liberty in New York City, NY. The microphoto is titled "STATUE OF LIBERTY NY". The stanhope is in fine condition and retains a clear and bold view but the last few letters of the title are a bit faded. Made about 1960. A common New York Souvenir charm that is getting increasingly hard to find in such a good state of preservation.
