Made in Italy, circa 1950 interesting and unusual miniature milky transparent white opalescent celluloid binocular has two religious micro diorama scenes. The binoculars are in good used condition with only minor scratches. The tiny views are magnified and can be seen by looking into the ocular pieces. Both views are Catholic themed and titled in Italian. The first view shows the "Black Madonna" of Sicily. She is also known as "Our Lady of Tindari" The image shows a statue of "Black Madonna" and is titled "Maria SS del Tindari Nigra Sum Sed-Formosa / BREVETTO 428282". The other micro-diorama image shows the church that houses this famous statue. It is titled "Santuario Tindari / Diorami Senesi". The viewing end of each ocular bears a relief "BREVETTATO". These binoculars are octagonal in shape and resemble old French mother of pearl opera glasses. Please see the photos for details. The images are reminiscent of stanhope peep views but they are inferior in comparison to such. None the less, they are quite charming and interesting. These binoculars would be a nice accessory for a doll or dollhouse.
This piece measures 20mm from side to side x 22mm tall x 10mm diameter at the widest point.
