An interesting and lovely 1953 vintage miniature fresh frosty pink (almost pearlescent) celluloid binocular pin has a clear scene of a large merchant ship in each ocular. The ship is the Cristoforo Colombo. One view shows the ship on an open sea and is captioned "CRISTOFORO COLOMBO" while the other depicts an almost aerial-like view of the ship in port with the caption "GENOVA" AND "IL PORTO". The appearance and feel of the images are reminiscent of a miniature version of the ever popular "View-Master". The wide end of each ocular bears a relief "MADE IN ITALY" and the letters "C M M" in individual circles. Please see the photos for details. The pin is an old style safety type pin. The pin incorporates a short link chain and both have a great patina that looks a bit like aged bronze. The pin is in great condition, opens and closes well, and is not bent. The piece is in excellent original condition and over 70 years old showing only minor signs of normal wear. A great set of mini binoculars that are increasingly difficult to find in this condition. It would be a nice accessory for a French or German doll or dollhouse.
This piece measures 30mm from side to side x 27mm tall x 13mm diameter at the widest point.
We specialize in stanhopes so please note that his is not a true stanhope, but rather an interesting stanhope-like magnifier. We acquired this piece as part of the collection of the estate of a discerning stanhope collector.
