Souvenir of Niagara Falls 4-1/2" orange butterscotch Bakelite combination pencil & pocketknife is in fine and perfect working condition. The mechanical tip is unusually made of black Bakelite rather than nickel, thus it is one of the earliest versions. It has a chrome plated pocket clip. The sides of the handle grip have no markings. One of the handles may have had a "maple leaf" design on it but this first became apparent in the photos. The marks that are visible could judt be patina or scratches as well. The blade exhibits good snap and a bit of light rusty oxidation. The knife blade tang is stamped PALMAX / SOLINGEN / GERMANY and measures 1-3/4" long. It retains it's original factory edge. The stanhope image is a clear multi-view showing 7 popular attractions in the Niagara Falls region. The main image is titled "Views of Niagara Falls" and the individual images are titled as follows:
Mrs. Taylor and Her Barrel
The Falls from Canada
This pocketknife pencil combination tool is in very fine condition and is stamped with a manufacturer marking noting it was made by Palmax of Solingen Germany. Palmax produced knives and cutlery from 1890-1915. It is a nice collectible piece and would be an important piece in any pocketknife, stanhope, baseball, Niagara Falls, or Pencil collection.
