This wonderful miniature figural barrel fob charm pendant is made of beautifully polished Cornish Serpentine stone. The stone is a rust brown color with veins of brick red running through it. The beauty of this piece did not translate fully in the photos. The floor of the barrel is flat whereas the top of the barrel is open to see down inside. It retains it's well polished glossy shine and is mounted with a sterling silver eyelet and large period (original) jump ring. to it and is likely lacquered or varnished. The stanhope is in the end of barrel and if you hold it close to your eye and peep inside you can see 4 tiny images of Cornwall England. The stanhope is a bit different in that it has no main title however the four tiny images are all titled as follows: (THE TITLES ARE REMARKABLY SMALL!)
POLDU HOTEL AND WIRELESS TELEGRAPH STATION (Notice the old spelling of Poldhu)
THE LOW LIGHT (Very difficult to read)
This piece was made about 1900 and has remained in remarkable condition. The stanhope is a bit hard to read due to the "fineness" of the microphoto and extremely small size of the titles. There are 2 bubbles in the stanhope that can be noted in the photos. It was certainly a worn and cherished piece. This barrel charm fob pendant is still quite wearable and certainly a collectible conversation piece.
