This is a well preserved & maintained gold tone & burgundy red leather pin stanhope brooch in the form of binoculars. They may have been worn at some time but they are in extremely fine condition showing only the patina of time. The leather wrapping the grip is embossed and resembles snakeskin. The binoculars resemble opera glasses made in the French style. This pin was made in France circa 1920 as a souvenir of Nice, France. The pin has a pull type safety clasp and is ornamented with a scrolling design. It is an uncommon piece and much different from most other stanhope binoculars. Both stanhopes show the same multi-image view of areas of Nice, France. Though both views are very clear and easily seen, our photos show the lesser quality of the two views including "before and after" restoration images. The images (both left and right) are titled:
Souvenir de Nice (main title)
Entree du Port
La Place Massena et la Casino Municipal
Promenade des Anglais
