This nice little pin is made of satin-spar, a type of feldspar that was once mined in the Niagara falls area. This beautiful stone has a stunning "tigereye" appearance. It was an early souvenir from Niagara Falls made in the late 19th or early 20th century. The setting is gold washed, plated or filled and the barrel and 3 dangling spheres are of satin spar. The barrel is wrapped with solid 14k gold wire and the bail and cap are 14k gold as well. The four cabochons that are set in floral motif cups are what I believe to be a similar looking camphor glass material. The cabochons have a tiger eye or star sapphire effect and they match the satinspar so well that it's difficult to tell that they are not satinspar. There are many other types of these feldspar souvenirs but this is one of the less common pieces that is difficult to find, especially in such fine condition. It measures only about 1" across but would certainly draw a lot of attention when worn. The stanhope image is perfectly clear and shows 7 views of the Niagara Falls area. This piece is in very fine original light used condition and it functions and works as it should. Still quite wearable and certainly a collectible conversation piece.
