Offered is charming figured mahogany artist's watercolor paintbox c. 1900. The box has a nice patina and features small, simple brass latches. The fitted interior still has many of the Rafael-brand watercolor briquettes plus charcoal sticks, a smudging stick, and a drafting tool of some sort. There is a small medallion affixed to the front left compartment and there are also two small porcelain mixing bowls, the larger of which is decorated with a gold band. The interior of the box still retains its original label that reads, "Feinste Farben Zur Aquarelle Maleri", which suggests a German origin for the paintbox. Size is approximately 9" x 7" x 1.5". Please note that several of the watercolor briquettes are worn, incomplete, or cracked commensurate with use and age. This is a wonderful piece that would make a great gift for an artist or art-lover.
