Offered is a bold Mid-century Modern still life by Sven Ingvar Wiede (Swedish, 1921-?). Weide was a modernist painter who was born in Alingsås and studied at the Valand School of Art and the Slöjdföreningen (now the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. He also studied and worked abroad, Wiede produced not only still lifes but also figurative works and landscapes as well. His landscapes generally feature motifs from Torekov, Tjörn and Öland.
This work is an excellent example of Wiede's mature modernist style. Painted circa 1955-60, the work is an oil on board and measures 14.5" x 23.5" unframed and 19.5" x 28.5" framed. The painting is signed lower right and is presented in a striking black and silver modernist reverse-slope frame. Both the frame and painting are in excellent condition and the work is ready to hang.
