Offered is a bold, colorful abstract work by Per Flemming (Swedish, b. 1938). Flemming is a post-impressionist and modernist painter who began exhibiting in 1973. He has participated in several recognized juried exhibitions, including "Den Frie" in Copenhagen, the annual Charlottenborg Spring Exhibitions, the annual Artists' Easter Exhibition, and the annual Artists Summer Exhibitions. He has also had numerous solo and group exhibitions and is represented in numerous public and private collections, including those of the Varde Art Museum, Ribe Art Museum, Kolding Art Museum and Tønder Museum of Art – all in Denmark.
Flemming produces a wide variety of subject matter, including abstracted landscapes, still lifes, and non-objective works. His work typically is rendered by overlapping washes of color, often with strong contrast. This technique is seen in this work, where in some areas the paint was even allowed to drip down over previous layers.
The painting is an oil on masonite and measures 19.25" x 19.25" unframed. The work has been mounted in a floater frame with black sides and dark silver face, which pairs beautifully with the modernist aesthetic of the painting. Including the frame, size is 20.75" x 20.75". The work is initialed lower right and both the painting and frame are in excellent condition.
