Offered is a striking 50 million-year-old fossil fish plate from the world-famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. The plate features two nice fish of the genus Diplomystus. This fossil plate was personally collected by Ruby Lane shop owner Bryan Roberts from a private quarry in the Kemmerer, Wyoming area and measures 6" x 10". The longest of the two fish measures 5.5" long and both exhibit excellent detail. This plate will make not only an impressive display piece but also a wonderful and unique gift for anyone who is interested in fossils, dinosaurs, or geology.
A note on the formation's geology: The Eocene-age sediments of the Green River Formation were laid down in a massive lake that was located in what is now southwest Wyoming. Although fish are the best-known fossils from the formation, crustaceans, amphibians, plants, insects, fresh water skates, and even birds and bats have been found. All in all, the Green River Formation represents the best record of a Cenozoic lake ecosystem ever discovered on earth.
