A unique Australian fob pendant dating back to the Edwardian era, c1906! This antique pendant is a wonderful example of early Australian jewellery. It is made of 9ct gold and the colour is predominantly yellow, with a subtle rose tinge to the relief sections ....adding further depth to the design! The triangular shape pendant is accented with five gemstones individually bead set in a star relief. There are four 1.70- 1.80mm synthetic pink rubies and one slightly smaller white sapphire. The gemstones are placed in the outline of the Australian Southern Cross Constellation, and the word "COO-EE in relief is slightly curved along the bottom of the triangle. If you're not familiar with the word 'COO-EE' it is an iconic Australian shout, usually used in the Australian bush. The pendant is solid in construction (not hollow!) and a nice solid weight on the scales of 5+grams. The textured front and polished relief edging and "COOEE" words add a gorgeous antiquity character. A little ring and sturdy 9ct gold jump ring completes the pendant.

Designs of COO-EE jewellery and its use as a trade mark were first registered in 1906, further mentioning the right to manufacture COOEE jewellery designs was acquired by the Melbourne manufacturing jewellers 'Johnson & Simonsen' who exhibited their work at the Perth exhibition in 1908. As mentioned in the 'Australian Jewellery 19th and Early 20th Century' book by A Schofield & K. Fahy.

Two stamps are placed to the reverse of pendant - '9c' denoting 9ct gold and the other stamp appears to be a 'crown' which is possibly the makers mark for Adelaide jeweller Frederick Basse, and later F Basse & Co (1881 - 1923).

A unique piece of Australian history for the collector or a stunning piece to wear!
