A wonderful Australian antique gold necklace dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900! The solid and smooth links are made in 9ct gold, and the colour is the charming antique rose and yellow hue. The former Albert chain was used by a dapper Victorian gentleman through a waistcoat, holding a pocket watch on one end and the key to wind it on the other.
Nowadays, the Victorian gentleman's chain suits as a lovely distinct gold necklace for women- this one a choker length at 37cm. The attractive fetter style link comprises of long double-sided bars with a coiled wire accent in the centre of each- the bars radiate with a lovely antique rose hue, it combines beautifully with the coiled wire which is a matte yellow hue. Alternating with the bars is a fancy yellow-rose hue 'Prince of Wales' link- oval loops which are adorned with textured wirework. Two sturdy 9ct rose gold swivel clips attach at back neck.
Suspended to front of necklace is a fancy shield pendant. The antique shield pendant has a lovely embossed wreath surrounding the shield and it is trimmed with an engraved pointed border. The slightly raised centre shield is not monogrammed - perfect for where your initials can be placed, or a special message! The colour of the 9ct gold shield pendant is also in between a rose and yellow gold hue, a nice compliment on the necklace! There are early Australian stamps placed to swivels and shield; the shield pendant was made by the iconic early Australian jeweller 'Willis & Sons' and the necklace swivels by early Melbourne jeweller 'George J Jackson'
