This pair of Siam sterling screw-back earrings date back to 1930's. These were hand-crafted before Siam became Thailand.
The cushion- shape earrings depict the dancing goddess Mekkala, the lightning goddess with charcoal black niello or enamel surrounding (also named nielloware) . The nielloware reflect facets of recent and ancient Thai culture, and illustrate skillful Thai craftsmanship.
The earrings measure 17mm-18mm, and are stamped “Made in Siam" and "Sterling” to the back of each. The screw closure works very well.
