Emma Melendez. Emma Melendez, a niece of Maestro Rafael Melendez, started her own taller in 1953. It was described as “a small and beautiful shop, with fixed prices for your advantage and situated downtown on the left side of our main parish church.” Melendez promoted her shop as “Plateria y Curiosidades, Beautiful Handwrought Silver Designs, Johnny y Emma Melendez.” The store also sold jewelry produced by other designers, including Del Rio. The shop closed in 1971. The primary designers or silversmiths who produced for Emma include Jose Luis Flores, Miguel Garcia Martinez, Victor Jaimez, Francisco Rivera, and the unidentified JM, R.CH, and MR.
