Hello and thank you for your interest in our inventory. Today up for your consideration is this STUNNING and VERY RARE Hopi - Leroy Kewanyama Sterling Overlay Belt Buckle. Leroy Kewanyama learned silversmithing and overlay technique from the Hopi Silvercrafts Cooperative Guild at Second Mesa, AZ. This buckle is an excellent example of finely executed overlay work. The buckle includes design elements that are traditionally Hopi, stylized bird feathers and cloud designs, all part of the Hopi means of calling in the rain. The buckle is stamped on the back with Kewanyama's hallmark. It will fit a 1-inch belt.

Leroy Kewanyama was best know for his Kachina Paintings, but he also made jewelry for three decades. He was a veteran of World War II, but he did not attend Fred Kabotie’s veterans’ classes. His work is highly sought after by collectors.
