This amazing pendant features the profile of the Greek goddess Hera, looking to the left. She is very elegant, crowned with a a diadem and hair dressed with rose cut diamonds attach, like the Antique fashion. She wears a necklace of diamonds, her dress is also closed thanks to a diamond.A peacock is legible on the left, it is linked to Hera, the goddess of women and mariage. The peacock symbolises the pride and the vanity, it matches perfectly with the mirror. We can open it sliding it on the right : thhere are 2 mirrors, the one on front is magnifying. Those little mirror was the perfect item for a lady of the upper class.
It weighs 37,2gr and measures 54,8 (2,2) x 43,8 (1,7') x 6,09 (0,2)mm. It is in veryy good condition even if there are few traces of wears. It was stamped twice with the eagle's head on the hinge. There is also the maker's mark but it is quite hard to read...
It was made during the Art Nouveau period, in the very beginning of the 20th Century. Art Nouveau is an artistic movement applied to the decorative arts, featured with a predominant theme : the free flowing line. Artists tried to find movement into woman's hair, feminine curve, nature : everything that moved which was well represented here with this pendant. It is very sensual.
