Lockets were very trendy during the Victorian and Edwardian years, it still remains nowadays because those little boxs affect our memories. Worn close to the heart, it holds our remembrances, pictures of people you love... The front is adorned with a sparkling and lively old European cut diamond set on a crescent, adorned with seed pearls. The diamond measures 4.6 x 4 x 2.6 mm approximately, for a total weighing around 0,30ct, color I/J, clarity SI.
It is of the highest quality. It is completely original and very characteristic to the period, c.1880. The crescent moon is associated with the Goddess Diana, the goddess of the hunt and twin sister of Apollo, god of the Arts. The same figure was worshiped by the Romans as Luna, the moon Goddess.
You can add 2 photos inside it : as you can see on the pictures, you can remove easily the glass. The oval shape is very common for antique locket because it has the same form of the human face. It was gold tested.
The clasp opens easily thanks to 2 golden beads and it shuts firmly with a snap. It weighs 22,3 gr and measures 30,6 x 18 x 2,8 mm (1,2 x 0,7 x 0,1 inches ). It is in excellent condition for an item of this period (c. 1880) even though there are few traces of wears. This pendant locket is a must have in our antique jewelry boxes, it is chic and very fashionable.
