A fine 19th-century bone (bovine) lace bobbin with the name BETSY picked out in red dots. Red band decoration to
either end. This bobbin has the added charm of having a very rare KITTY FISHER top bead. The other spangles include
two small clear beads, two black beads and the much sought after Kitty Fisher bead. This most famous name of lace-
makers beads is called Kitty Fisher's Eyes. The bead has to have specific details of a translucent white base with opaque white
eyes with blue pupils and a pink mouth.
Kitty Fisher was a much favoured high-class 18th-century courtesan paid highly for her favours by aristocratic patrons. She
was a well known public figure, painted by the renowned artist Sir Joshua Reynolds and was a bit of a trendsetter. She did
marry a member of parliament but died at an early age.
It is getting very difficult to find antique bobbins with this sought after bead so please do not miss out on this one.
