Danish Rococo Vinaigrette a k a Hovedvandsaeg. Solid silver, partly gold washed.. Hallmarked with worn town and maker's mark. Made c 1770.
These vinaigrettes are called Hovedvandsaeg in Scandinavia. The little boxes were given by young men as a love token declaring their intentions of marriage. Engraved in the base is the i monogram of the bride.
Today the are used as pendants or ring boxes at weddings.
