These vinaigrettes are called Hovedvandsaeg in Scandinavia. The little boxes were given by young men as a love token declaring their intentions of marriage. Today many wedding couples use them as ring boxes, or they are often used as a pendant in a necklace. Hallmarked (rubbed) probably for Johan Michael Geelmand (1742-1805) in the town of Nakskov late 1700s. Beautiful and rare bright cut engraving. Partly outside gilding. Inside gilt.
Excellent condition. Needs a polish.
