Solid silver Vinaigrette Hovedvandsaeg. Made by Nicolai Martin Fuchs in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark, in the year 1740. Fully hallmarked.
These vinaigrettes are called Hovedvandsaeg in Scandinavia. The little boxes were given by young men as a love token declaring their intentions of marriage. The monogram engravings in the front and back are them of the bridal couple. Today many wedding couples use them as ring boxes, or they are often used as a pendant in a necklace.
Very rare with box made 1740 (!), in excellent condition, fully hallmarked and with a set of marriage engravings.
