Solid silver Vinaigrette Hovedvandsaeg. Made by Johan Haberkiel in the city of Aabenraa, Denmark, in the year 1763. Fully hallmarked.
These vinaigrettes are called Hovedvandsaeg in Scandinavia. The little boxes were given by young men as a love token declaring their intentions of marriage. The monogram engravings in the front are them of the bridal couple and the year of their marriage; 1778. Today many wedding couples use them as ring boxes, or they are often used as a pendant in a necklace.
Very rare with a box in excellent condition, fully hallmarked and with complete a set of marriage engravings incl. the year!
