Antique 18th Century Armlet with a Yemenite Jewish coiled thread symbol amulet on the closing clasp of the Armlet. These armlets where used in old times by Jewish Yemenite Brides and where made fitted to the upper arm. The Armlet can open slightly ,on a hinge, just enough to bypass the thicker middle muscle of the arm or to hold dress shirt or material of garment. In comparison with an average Yemen ladys' arm - this armlet is considered relatively large and can fit western ladies however in a full costume of festivity ,as mentioned,it would have needed to go over fabric of dress and shirt.
These kind of Armlets are considered rare as they belong to a very early stage of Yemenite Jewelry making and in fact is a type of item that one would find in Museums as an example of Islamic Jewelry that date as far as the 12-13th Century AD The last Photo is taken from the Israel museum in Jerusalem and shows very similar armlets attributed to much earlier periods of the Arabia region.
The composition is of low-med silver (500-600) . The Bracelet is of elliptical form if measured from the outside but from the inside it has approximately a balanced diameter of 3 5/8 inch (9.3cm). External larger diameter is 5" (12.7cm). Total weight : 135.3grams (4.77oz). Armlet has various places that seem to have been re welded in various spots over holes or cracks and has still 3-4 small holes that can be seen in photos. Never the less it is very solid ,functional and can be used as for it's original purpose if one wishes to or placed as a historical display item.
A very Authentic Islamic Yemenite Bracelet/armlet considered by collectors of such items as a rarity.
