I bought this piece from an estate where the gentleman was an avid collector of Japanese ceramics. There was a piece of paper taped onto it that read Owari Ware 100 Years Old. I did some research on this type of Japanese pottery and could not find any pieces similar to this one so I am not claiming that this piece is Owari. It is a very porous type of pottery that has lots of little holes all over it. It is hand painted with three sitting figures. There are also some Japanese characters on it. There are two small holes in the lid to let the steam out, one in the center of the finial and the other on the lid itself. The height is 3 3/4". There is a small chip on the spout. Other than that there is general crazing throughout the piece.
