I believe that this piece is made of meerschaum but I'm not positive. I haven't seen that many pieces in this dark brown color before. It features a saint standing on a ledge. In the background is an arch and what looks like olive trees. Carved into the ledge is the word Giry which is a city in the Burgundy region of France. This may be the patron saint of the town. It measures 4 1/8" X 3 1/8". The front is in nice condition but the edges and the back are quite damaged. There is something written on the back very faintly that I can not make out.
