This French bronze military Verdun medal was created on November 20, 1916 and issued to the soldiers in the battle for Verdun in World War I. This version which is the coin version was issued before the wearable one suspended from a ribbon. It was designed by the Paris artist S.E, Vernier. His name is stamped faintly on the left hand side of the medal. On the front written in French is On Ne Passe Pas which translates to "You shall Not Pass." On the reverse side are the city gates of Verdun. It measures 1" in diameter.
