This is a really lovely old painting, which I believe to be American in origin. The scene depicts a young girl walking through woodland, carrying a basket of wild flowers. The girl is dressed typically for the period in dress and bonnet.
There is a note attached to the back of the glazed frame which states that the painting was reframed in 2007. This is the current frame, it was done very sympathetically using a nice old frame Georgian so it doesn't look out of place.
Also stated on the note is that the painting was previously reframed in 1935 and that there is an inscription stating this on the back of the painting.
The picture is signed with the initials F.J.W and is dated 1890.
