This antique Victorian needlepoint & beadwork valance has a beautiful look to it. The background is multicolored wool needlepoint and the glass and metal beads are done in shades of gold, brown, gray & white. It was made around 1850. It is a very special piece since it comes with the original backed wood shelf and waxed piping. The actual Valance shows a perfectly executed rose design in the center and two beautiful Lily Designs on each side of the main Rose Design - all the conducted in magnificent needlepoint work. These needlepoint designs are surrounded by exceptional Victorian Beadwork Pattern. The top of the Valance also has a row of beautiful Victorian Beadwork. The back is lined in linen fabric, which shows some wear - Since it can't be seen, it doesn't affect the front in the least.
Condition: The overall condition is pretty good considering it's well over 150 years old. The shelf has very few antique wormholes (none in the surface and all treated). Some small areas are missing needlepoint & some missing beads. All the Beadwork is stable. (please see pictures)
Measurements: The Valance measures 22 inch along the top and 9 inch in maximum length. The corner edges of the shelf are each 13 1/2 inch long.
