This magnificent antique polychrome delft tile from the the Netherlands is a true gem. It was made around 1650 and once was mounted as a fireplace decoration, or on a kitchen wall.
The bird seems to be some sort of tropical bird like a parrot. The tile was made from clay, tin glazed and hand painted in the city of Delft. This theme is very typical for the 17th Century. Colored tiles are a lot rarer than their blue and white or purple and white counterparts, for which Delft is so well known.
Theme: Bird in a Berry Bush
Motive: Ox head corner motif
Measurements 5” by 5"
Condition: The tile is in original condition. Minor crazing. (Please see pictures)
