This wonderfully bold carving of the Annunciation of the Lord /Annunciation of Our Lady is carved in high relief. It dates back to the 18th century and comes from continental European Alpine Area. It is a very representative example of rustic baroque Folk Art from southern Germany or Austria. It used to be a door of an 18th Century farmhouse cupboard and is completely carved out of wood. Shown is the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. In the sky is a depiction of the Holy Spirit as a dove.

It is in good condition. It has a beautiful patina and was restored in former times. (Please see pictures)

It is 18 1/2 Inch Tall by 13 1/2 Inch Wide and about 1 1/2 inch deep.
