We are proud to present you this magnificent Gothic Statue from the late Andres Laszlos Collection of 1000 years of Religious Sculptures.

The Handcarved Wooden Figure is a lovely depiction of Spains National Saint - Santiago de Compostela or St. Jacob / James the Great. He is holding a bible in his right hand and wears the typical Pilgrims Cloak. He is beautifully carved and has some remains of a stunning Polychrome finish. He is a typical example of Spanish Gothic Sculptures and dates back to circa 1330-1390. The figure was most likely carved in Old Castile in Spain and had most likely once a pilgrim's staff. About 50 years ago - when this sculpture was displayed amongst the former owners gallery exhibits - the late Spanish Art History Specialist Maria Luisa Gomez Moreno validated it. The Statue comes with a copy of the last exhibition catalog where it is listed as item number 15. (Please see pictures)

Provenance: Andres (Andras) Emerico Laszlo (von Keller) - famous author - found this amazing example of 14th Century Craftsmanship in Burgos, Spain. This city is located on the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) which has been a famous Pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostella in west Spain for more than 1000 years. The figure was purchased in the 1940's or 1950's during Laszlos extensive travels through Spain and America where he gathered his collection of religious art.

Exhibitions: The last exhibition of this statue was during Laszlos last exhibition in 1969 at the Gallerie Jean-Francois Apesteguy in Deauville, France. The exhibition was called "1000 ans de sculptures primitives espagnoles". There were many more exhibitions of his large collection in the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and more. They were very well received and celebrities like the famous painter Joan Miró visited them (Please see the picture of Miro and Lazlo at one of his exhibitions)

Condition: The Polychrome Paint appears to be old but mostly worn of - very typical for statues almost 700 years old. Some antique wormholes (very old). Good antique condition. Please see pictures.
