This rare open 19th Century Oil Lamp was once used by the Coal Miners of the Ruhr Valley in Germany. It was hand made out of brass and dates back to the middle of the 19th century. This type of hanging lamp is known as an open frog lamp, possibly because of its resemblance to the amphibian. The chain could also swivel, allowing the miner to easily point his flame in the desired direction. These type of miners lamps are highly collectible and a rare find.
