This rare 19th Century Oil Lamp was once used by the Coal Miners of the Ruhr Valley in Germany. It was hand made out of iron and dates back to the early 19th century. This type of hanging lamp is known as a frog lamp, possibly because of its resemblance to the amphibian. These lamps improved upon the open hanging lamps by allowing for larger fonts and less spilling of fuel. The chain could also swivel, allowing the miner to easily point his flame in the desired direction. These type of miners lamps are highly collectible and a rare find.
