This beautiful Sewing Table is a true Gem of Biedermeier Wood Craft. It was made in the period of German Biedermeier and dates back to circa 1830's. It is beautifully conducted with mirrored Cherry Wood Veneer (Symmetry axes were generated by using two Veneer sheets coming from the exact same area of the wood stem). The Side Table has a marvelous Birch and Fruit Wood Marquetry Inlay in a geometric star pattern on top. It is finished an all four sides. The drawer has six compartments and a dove tails. The piece has the typical simple and refined elegance of Biedermeier and would look stunning as Side Table or Entry Hall Stand.
Condition: In good condition. Some age consistent wear to the veneer. The key works as a knob (doesn't lock). PLEASE SEE PICTURES
About Biedermeier Furniture:
Biedermeier was an influential German style of furniture design that evolved during the years 1815–1848. Throughout the period, emphasis was kept upon clean lines and minimal ornamentation. It was a rebellion against the baroque ornamentation. Social forces originating in France changed the artisan-patron system that achieved this period of design. The middle class growth originated in the Industrial revolution. The Biedermeier style emerged from the French Empire Style of Napoleon I, which introduced the romance of ancient Roman Empire styles, adapting these to modern early 19th-century households.
