This amazing Art Nouveau WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, Geislingen) Ink Well was designed under the sculptor & designer and director of the WMF Art Studio Albert Mayer. As many of Mayer's designs it shows a beautiful art Nouveau Pattern with Clover & Fruit and the typical swirls of the era. The Ink Stand was is made out of Pewter and lateron Silver plated. The actual Vase for the Ink was made out of heavy glass.
It is stamped with WMF, EP and AS
The EP means that it was Electro Plated and the AS stands for "Alt Silber" (meaning that the Silver was supposed to look old even when it was brand new)
Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the JUGENDSTIL / Art Nouveau Style.
Widely known by its initials, WMF, the company preferred to create its own designs and so the main proportion of the beautiful creations in Art Nouveau style are from their own Art studio which was directed from 1894 by sculptor and designer Albert Mayer.
