This is a beautiful example of the handmade microbeaded purses produced in the German period of Biedermeier in the early to mid 19th century. The purse features a multicolored floral design. It is truly a work of art done by artist with superb skills. The frame is silver toned and embossed with a very nice design. The leather lining is in remarkably good condition.
The early 1800's, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Eras brought forth some fascinating examples from France, Germany, Italy and Czechoslovakia.
The glass beads could have been made in the glass factories of Murano, Bohemia, Germany or Austria. The beads were produced and utilized to create these exceptional bags. Beads were transparent, opaque or iridescent resembling carnival glass. The exquisite designs offered both fine quality and superior workmanship with complex patterns taking up to a year to complete.
Handmade beaded bags have been fashionable for over two hundred years. Today these bags are considered works of art. They are treasured for their beauty and their exceptional workmanship.
CONDITION: This lovely handmade purse is in good antique condition. The frame and clasp are sturdy and functioning. The chain is in good condition. The frame is in good condition. The bead work on the body of the purse is in good condition (Please note the small hole on the side). The fringe on the bottom is as displayed in the photos in good condition (some small parts missing).
This purse would be such a lovely addition to any collection.
