This magnificent Dutch Brass Tobacco box dates back to the early 18th Century and has beautiful engravings. The very unusual engraving show multiple coat of arms on the one side and portraits and a mystical creature on the other sid. I can not identify the coat of arms but it is very likely that this exquisite tobacco box was once own by a noble man. It has a lovely shine and patina to it
The hand wrought engraving is beautiful and has just a little bit of wear - age consistent from being handled over the last 300 years.
This kind of tobacco box was made for the transportation of tobacco. The Netherlands was one of the largest traders in Tobacco and also famous manufacturers of related accessories at this time. These boxes were often produced in Germany and then exported to the Netherlands either already engraved to order or plain ready to be engraved by the purchaser.
Condition: Beautiful Shine and Patina with some repairs. The hinge is only attached to the lid. It closes tightly. Overall good antique condition. PLEASE SEE PICTURES
The measurements are approx 5" wide, 2 3/4" deep and 1.5" high
