This detailed print is an original steel engraving. It was published in 1856 in the "Illustrierte Zeitung". It shows a depiction of Judgment Daywith god in the center and the Angels in heaven to his left and tortured people and monsters to his right. It was engraved after a drawing by Professor Joseph von Führich. He was born at Kratzau in Bohemia. Deeply impressed as a boy by rustic pictures adorning the wayside chapels of his native country, his first attempt at composition was a sketch of the Nativity for the festival of Christmas in his father's house. He lived to see the day when, becoming celebrated as a composer of scriptural episodes, his sacred subjects were transferred in numberless repetitions to the roadside churches of the Austrian state. The reverse side of the engraving is a page of the "Illustrierte Zeitung" of May 24th 1856. It would look even more beautiful when framed in a simple frame.
