This detailed picture is an original steel engraving. It was published in 1854 in "The Illustrated London News". It shows the First landing of the Royal Horse Artillery in the Bosphorus during the crimean war. The Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) was formed in 1793 as a distinct arm of the Royal Regiment of Artillery (commonly termed Royal Artillery) of the British Army. Horses are still in service for ceremonial purposes but were phased out from operational deployment during the 1930s. The Bosphorus is a narrow, natural strait and an internationally significant waterway located in northwestern Turkey. The reverse side of the engraving is a page of the "The Illustrated London News" of June 3rd 1854. It would look even more beautiful when framed in a simple frame.
