This original copper-plate engraving from an early 18th Century Bible is a real beauty. It depicts the Prophet Daniel of the old Testament. It was engraved by the famous German Engraver Engelhardt Nunzer and published in 1701. It shows Daniel in great detail holding a page with pictures of his great tales set in the Babylonian and Persian courts.
Daniel is the hero of the Book of Daniel - a noble Jewish man of Jerusalem. He is taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and serves the king and his successors with loyalty and ability until the time of the Persian conqueror Cyrus, all the while remaining true to the God of Israel.
