This is a beautiful example of the handmade microbeaded purses produced in France in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. The purse features a multicolored floral design. It is truly a work of art done by artist with superb skills. The frame is hand made and chiseled out of sterling silver with stunning designs. It is hallmarked with the Boar Head for 925 Sterling Silver and a makers mark.
The early 1800's, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Eras brought forth some fascinating examples from France, Germany, Italy and Czechoslovakia.
The glass beads could have been made in the glass factories of Murano, Bohemia, Germany or Austria. The beads were produced and utilized to create these exceptional bags. Beads were transparent, opaque or iridescent resembling carnival glass. The exquisite designs offered both fine quality and superior workmanship with complex patterns taking up to a year to complete.
Handmade beaded bags have been fashionable for over two hundred years. Today these bags are considered works of art. They are treasured for their beauty and their exceptional workmanship.
CONDITION: This lovely handmade purse is in very good antique condition. The frame and clasp are sturdy and functioning. The bead work on the body of the purse is in very good condition. Only very few bead are missing. Please see photos.
