This magnificent copper engraved map was beautifully hand-coloured. It shows The Balearic Islands including Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera and also parts of Mainland Spain including the cities of Barcelona, Tarragona and Valencia. Furthermore it shows the Columbretes Islands as well. This attractive map by Willem Blaeu shows great details and is very decorative. The topography - including woods and mountains is graphically depicted and it shows two beautiful coats of arms on top of the map. A decorative mileage scale and a cartouche title are depicted as well as multiple beautiful ships and a Sea monster.
It was published in Blaeu's early French edition of his "Novus Atlas" in circa 1635. It is a fine impression and has the original color with wide original margins and written description in French on the back.
It was framed in a beautyful simple vintage frame which exposes not only the front, but also the description on the reverse side of the map.
