This gem of a find is simply beautiful. Set into Tombak (a brass alloy with high copper content often used for Victorian Garnet Jewelry) were 14 beautiful Garnets in the shape of a Star. The Garnets are of very good quality and reflect the light, their color is a deep wine red - typical for the Bohemian Garnet of the 19th Century. This piece would be a lovely addition to someone's collection or could be worn every day. It certainly adds a little sparkle to the wearer's outfit, without being overbearing. Just truly dainty and beautiful....
A tie pin (tiepin / stick pin / stickpin) is a neckwear-controlling device, originally worn by wealthy English gentlemen to secure the folds of their cravats. They were first popularized at the beginning of the 19th century. The stickpins were necessary accoutrements to keep the expensive fabrics of the neck wear in place and safe. Stickpins commonly used pearls and other precious gemstones and were designed specifically for their owners.
