This magnificent piece of baroque craftsmanship is a rare bronze sculpture. It dates back to circa 1740-1760 and was made in continental Europe. The beautiful baroque Crucifixion Group shows Jesus Christ, The Holy Mary / Madonna and one more person. Traditionally this last person is one of Jesus apostles, John, but it can be as well Mary Magdalene. Even the fact the person on Jesus left looks more like a women won't help figuring out who it is supposed to be, because John has always been depicted very feminine.
On the bottom of the cross is also a nice flower pattern and a depiction of the brazen serpent. Many more beautiful patterns surrounding Jesus body and each of the three ends of the cross is decorated with a nice little Putti / Angel.
This is a very rare and special piece. Haven't seen something similar.
Condition: In very good antique condition - the right hand of Jesus appears to have a small crack and the lower rivet appears to be replaced. (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS)
