This stunning set of of six nineteenth century apothecary's nesting weights is a rare find. The 5 smaller bronze weights are open cups and contained in the largest weight which has a bronze lid.
It appears that the total weight of all 6 weights together is about 489 grams - which equals an older French medicinal pound (before 1818). All the weights (but the smallest are numbered : 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. These numbers indicate their weight in the old unit "Lot" (about 15.6 grams). All the weights are very accurate for their age of about 200 years, including the smallest which is a half "Lot".
In addition to the numbers each weight is hallmarked SG with the Swiss cross. We couldn't find out the producer and we will leave the interpretation of the marks to experts!
Size: 1 3/4" tall and a top diameter of 2 1/4".
Condition : Very good antique condition with a nice patina.
