This early hand-colored original copper-plate engraving on heavy chain-linked, watermarked paper this a real beauty. It depicts Calabash or Bottle gourd and has an antique written translation into French on the bottom.

Author: Christian Gottlieb Ludwig (1709-1773), a German physician and botanist. He was a professor of medicine, pathology and therapy at the University of Leipzig. He was also involved in Carl Linnaeus' classification system.
Engraver: Nicolaus Friedrich Eisenberger, after the drawings by Mrs. Elizabeth Blackwell (more info from Wikipedia) in her publication, A Curious Herbal (1737-1739).
