This amazing Art Nouveau WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, Geislingen) Jewelry Box is a very rare find, since it comes with its original Key. It was designed under the sculptor & designer and director of the WMF Art Studio Albert Mayer.
The Box has the shape of a Treasure Chest with beautiful Art Nouveau Decor. It was made out of Brass and then Silver Plated with 1 Gram of Silver per dm2. Afterwards the decor was oxidized with sulfuric acid. All these information you can gather from the marks (see pictures). It circa dates to the year 1910.
It is stamped with the famous Ostrich symbol, WMF G, OX, g and I/0
About WMF:
Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the JUGENDSTIL / Art Nouveau Style.
Widely known by its initials, WMF, the company preferred to create its own designs and so the main proportion of the beautiful creations in Art Nouveau style are from their own Art studio which was directed from 1894 by sculptor and designer Albert Mayer.
